For our closing event, The Festival is pleased to present award-winning folk collective The Fugitives. Known for their high energy music, the band has hosted sold out shows while touring North America, the UK and Europe. Their album, The Promise of Strangers, won Best Folk Record from the German Record Critics Association while also picking up multiple nominations at the Western Canadian Music Awards. Their most recent album, Trench Songs, re-imagines the songs written in the trenches by soldiers during the First World War. Modern melodies and instrumentation were created to accompany lyrics that speak of despair, anger, and class tensions, giving new voice to “protest” songs. The album has earned the band Best Vocal Group and Best Ensemble nominations at the 2022 Canadian Folk Music Awards. The Fugitives consists of Brendan McLeod and Adrian Glynn, songwriters and guitarists, banjoist Chris Suen, and violinist Carly Frey.
