Daniel Heath Justice

Daniel Heath Justice of the Cherokee Nation found his way to the Sunshine Coast via Colorado, Nebraska and Toronto. He currently holds the Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Literature and Expressive Culture at UBC. A writer of many talents, Justice’s books include the Indigenous epic fantasy novel, The Way of Thorn and Thunder: The Kynship Chronicles. He is also the co-editor of a number of critical and creative anthologies and journals, including the award-winning The Oxford Handbook of Indigenous American Literature with James H. Cox, and the author of the acclaimed nonfiction books Why Indigenous Literatures Matter and Our Fire Survives the Storm: A Cherokee Literary History. Justice also wrote a natural and cultural history of the badger, titled Badger, part of a pioneering book series on animals by Reaktion Books. His next contribution to the series is about everyone’s favourite backyard raider, Raccoon, touted by The New York Times as “fascinating and thoughtfully written.”
