All The News That’s Fit to Print

Kamal Al-Solaylee, Charmaine de Silva, Marsha Lederman, and André Picard with Kathryn Gretsinger

That’s the famous slogan of the New York Times, but these days what is “news” and what is “fit” have become difficult to discern. Social media and other non-mainstream digital news sources have become the preferred way for Canadians to receive their news. We read that on the internet so it must be true, right? Globally, journalists of both mainstream and independent sources have come under attack, labelled propagandists and accused of spreading misinformation, while also being harassed, assaulted and even killed while trying to do their jobs. Veteran broadcaster Kathryn Gretsinger will moderate an open and frank conversation on the state of journalism and journalistic integrity in these difficult times. Joining her is journalist and Director of the UBC School of Journalism Kamal Al-Solaylee, Globe and Mail correspondents Marsha Lederman and André Picard, and News Director of CityNews, Charmaine de Silva.
