Charles Demers

Just because you are on the faculty of UBC’s Creative Writing Program doesn’t mean you have to be serious all the time. If you need a little laughter with your literature, Charlie is your guy. He is often found being funny on CBC Radio’s The Debaters, or Just for Laughs on CBC TV, but he is also very funny in print. His latest book is The Horrors: An A to Z of Funny Thoughts on Awful Things. There is an element of tragedy in some of the comedy which the publisher describes as “darkly mirthful.” He has been called “silly and cerebral.”

His earlier work includes Vancouver Special, a prize-winning collection of essays, and a novel, The Prescription Errors.
